51 Golden chances at Slipper glory

John O’Shea has declared his group of Golden Slipper nominated juveniles ‘the best group of running horses’ he’s assembled for next year’s richest two-year-old race in the world, the Golden Slipper.

“Very strong, I’ve got a really good bunch of running horses this year,” John said.

“We’ve got a lovely cross section of young horses heading into the new season.”

The best stallions in the land are represented in the group with five by the sire of two Golden Slipper winners, Redoute’s Choice, two by the soon to be crowned 2007/08 Champion Stallion, Encosta De Lago, two Flying Spur’s, the sire of the 2007 Golden Slipper winner Forensics and three by Sebring’s sire, More Than Ready.

“More Than Ready is a proven sire that really excites me,” said John.

“A lot of time people go for fashion and they don’t sit down to analyse statistics.

“He had eight individual Stakes winners in his first crop but was probably overshadowed by a young Redoute’s Choice that was taking all before him at the time.”

On the first season stallion front the stable looks to have the bases covered with five by Fastnet Rock, two Not A Single Doubt’s and a Charge Forward, the horse, trained by John, that finished second in the best Golden Slipper of modern times behind the Triple Crown winner Dancer Hero.
